While searching on the net for lateral exercises I can be doing while restricted to walk in the yard I came across this:
Lateral Exercises
Although the little horse figures with the bulging shoulder isnt ideal!! I thought the exercises were interesting and will give them a try! Anything to widen our repetoire :-)
Would love to hear of anybodys favourites schooling exercises for inspiration!

someone has been copying from 100 exercises for dressage riders...i think! when your finances are more secure (and i just read your post on EE about that, i'm in that nightmare myself ATM!) get it if you can! I managed to spill tea on mine so some of the pages are stuck together...
Great Claire - I was wondering where it came from!!! Thanks :-)
Depends on what you are trying to achieve?
I haven't looked at the site yet, and you'll know these I'm sure...but my favourites are:
leg-yield in and out from a 20m circle, into a 10m circle (if the horse is supple enough, if not, 15m!) and back out
shoulder in to turn about the haunches to change direction
turn about the forehand/haunches on a 20m square
I have lots more I like but you are a bit restricted in walk on a non-schooling surface. It is also easy to fiddle with the front end in a slower pace, doing turns about (well, I do anyway!). If you are really stuck for space, clicker work to do stretches is always good fun for bonding.
It's been an age since I've had to school, my mind has drawn a blank!
oh I LOVE the square exercise - totally forgotten about that!! good reminder Danni :-)
great minds - come comment on my lateral work thread on ee...
i have a load - i like to mix up the lateral work to keep the engagement.
and SI is the king of all dressage thingies....
you wanna get together sometime? might be fun to talk about schooling exerises/ etc. not enough people are anal about dressage, and as i have had six weeks off i am getting really obsessed!
we will have to arrange for another curry night Laura!!! Im also obssessed!! Poor Antsje - once the light nights come she will wonder what the heck has happened to her retirement lol!!!
